Opened in 2002, the Hospital sees about 8,000 patients and perform about 1,500 surgeries annually. We have special expertise in total hip and knee replacement surgery, one of the very few places where this surgery is available in Sub-Saharan Africa. We treat a wide range of orthopaedic conditions experienced by the children of Malawi including clubfoot, burn contractures, osteomyelitis and other acquired congenital conditions. In addition, Beit CURE Malawi also provides high quality physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, as well as an outpatient pain clinic offering assessment and diagnosis, medication, injection therapies and acupuncture.
The hospital is part of a wider network of hospitals throughout the developing world, all run by CURE International with the aim of delivering life-changing surgery and the good news of God's love to children and families suffering with curable physical disabilities. The hopsital coordinates the Malawi National Clubfoot Programme, alongside the Ministry of Health and other partners. Launched in 2007, the Programme's mission is to ensure that all children born with clubfoot in Malawi are treated appropriately using the Ponseti Method (of manipulation casting). It thereby seeks to eradicate cases of untreated clubfoot within 10 years, and is the largest programme of its kind in the world.
The CURE Kids Programme aims to share the stories and pictures of the children who come to our hospital in Malawi (or any other CURE hospital) with people throughout the rest of the world. Profiles of each child in our hospital are put up on the website - cure.org/curekids - in order to raise funds for these children's operations from international donors.
The Hospital also serves as a research centre, and is currently the largest centre for orthopaedic research in Sub-Saharan Africa. Papers are published with a focus on providing evidence to improve the care of orthopaedic patients, both trauma and those with disabilities. The Beit CURE International Hospital also has its own on-site public pharmacy. Well-stocked and very reasonably priced, it is open to members of the public and our resident Pharmacy Technician will be on hand to give helpful advice. Stocks include a range of prescription drugs, over the counter meds and first aid supplies. Open Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm.
At Beit CURE International Hospital you will also find the new CURE Café. On offer is a range of light lunches and snacks, homemade cakes and pastries, fresh juices and smoothies, as well as delicious Malawian tea and coffee. With its walled garden and roof terrace, it is the perfect place to meet friends, work using our internet hotspot, or just relax. A percentage of all profites goes straight towards the funding of more children's operations.
